FATS/FATAR allowed us to quickly evaluate and correct tape related problems.

The alternatives—loss of data, failed attempts to recreate data and possibly sending tapes offsite to specialist recovery services—are not acceptable.

FATAR has a copy function that can make an exact "bit for bit" image copy of an input tape, or can do logical copies, allowing you to rename, reblock and selectively copy files from the input tape.

FATAR provides an extensive error recover facility that allows you to read (and copy) tapes that have had tape errors thereby avoiding significant rerun time.
